OCT 2007

We have just released a request for proposals for our 15 Year Anniversary Artist In Residence Program. Please click on the green button to the right to view and download the RFP.

Here is the Avenues bench being installed by MacGuffie Rigging and John Hock. This bench weighed in at 15,000 lbs. That will be the heaviest project KKC will ever be involved in.

Here are some great images of the Archdale bench being installed.

The scary moment when the 3000 lb. stone had to be lifted over the fence and into the Archdale yard.

Sue, Amy and Mey relax on the new bench.

Our exhibition BEING SEEN/ IN-BETWEEN will be displayed at the McKnight Foundation Gallery between October 2007 to January 2008.

The foundation is located at: 710 South Second Street, Suite 400 Minneapolis, MN 55401 and is open between 8 am and 5 pm.

Please let your hair grow long for our upcoming fundraiser at Moxie Salon & Gallery on November 18th!

SEPT 2007

Our storefront project was installed this past week. Youth artwork is on display in street level windows for a few months in windows on 2nd Ave. S. between 10th & 11th streets at a Metro transit station. There will be an announcement/release from Forecast Public Artworks in the next few weeks. We will be posting pictures of the exhibit soon.

The benches are finished at Franconia and now await installation at our two sites (Avenues for homeless youth and Archdale). They can be seen at FSP as part of their huge year-end opening and reception on Sat. Sept. 15th.

They look pretty impressive at the park and will be really great once they are installed.

The Being Seen/In-between exhibit will be moving to the McKnight Foundation gallery sometime in Sept. or Oct. and we will be having a public reception for this show. A formal announcement is pending.

JUNE 2007

KKC will be one of the featured organizations on MTN's "Access To Art" during the month of July. This episode is shot on location at KKC and focuses on youth arts programs.

You can watch the 30 min. segment on MTN 17 (cable in Minneapolis) Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. starting in July, or watch on-line HERE.

We are super excited to begin workshops on a largescale mural for the exterior of YouthLink. In partnership with Juxtaposition Arts and Intermedia Arts, KKC welcomes muralist Lady Pink from NYC to create a 17' x 33 ' mural on the exterior of Youthlink-Project Offstreets. Check our program schedule for workshop info.

A great shot of the group working together.

Our FSP bench project is moving along smoothly. Two benches were assembled and we are now waiting for our designs to be sand blasted onto the benches.

MAY 2007

We are busy working away with FSP to design our granite benches. We took a break recently to make some wonderful throwies! This was a super fun one day project that packs a lot of WOW factor.

Throwies being assembled. We made around 150 of varied color.

We took them outside and found a suitable home for them. Many of the Throwie projects online involved "bombing" metal surfaces around different cities. The KKC youth were interested in something a bit more direct. They sent a simple message to the traffic on 394 heading out of Mpls. Look for them on 12th St. and Hawthorne.

This is what they came up with... leave it to teenagers to keep it real.

APRIL 2007

KKC will begin our next large scale collaborative AIR project with Franconia Sculpture Park! KKC youth will team with FSP artists to design and build two stone benches!

Migrations reviewed in the City Pages!

Cast Away

Hundreds of kids live on the streets of Minnesota. And so does their art. by Peter S. Scholtes

April, 2004

KULTURE KLUB PRESENTS: MIGRATIONS
A TWIN CITIES PUBLIC ART PROJECT

Migrations is a public art project created by Kulture Klub, an independent nonprofit arts organization that brings together artists and homeless teens.

In 2003, the estimated number of homeless/unaccompanied youth 17 and under in the twin cities every night was 660.* To symbolize this population the youth of Kulture Klub worked with Artist-In-Resident Suzy Greenberg to create pocket sized sculptures, “self-portraits”, representations of themselves. Through the casting process these miniature artworks were duplicated over and over to reach 660 pieces. Distributed throughout the Twin Cities, the objects become small treasures to be found by the public. The pieces have each been marked to lead the audience to kultureklub.org where they can learn about this project. As well, the sites of distribution have been marked on a map, tracking the scope of this mini-large-scale project.
