Visual Arts Center
Minneapolis, Minnesota
November 7 – December 14, 2008
(Opening Reception 6 pm to 9 pm, Nov. 7th)
Minneapolis, MN (Sept. 9, 2008)
On Friday November 7, 2008 the Soo Visual Art Center will host ArtWise: 15 Years of Kulture Klub, a five week exhibition and celebration of our unique and innovative history of creative community connection. ArtWise will highlight 15 extraordinary years of partnering artists and homeless youth, bridging survival and inspiration.
At the Soo VAC, Founder of Kulture Klub, Dorit Cypis will begin to thread a timeline of key events in her memory, from dreaming of Kulture Klub, to handing the baton to the current staff. Through this timeline the stage will be set for all the artists, youth, staff, volunteers and community partners who have participated with Kulture Klub to recall key events in our memories. Through the lens of Kulture Klub, we will unravel an unprecedented history of the arts in the Twin Cities. A history that reaches layers upon layers of brilliant people. Through ArtWise, we wish to publicly recognize and honor our five key participating groups: 1) Youth experiencing homelessness, 2) Artists of diverse disciplines, 3) Arts and cultural partners, 4) Social service partners (Organizations and their amazing staff), 5) Funders and businesses.
Please join us for a unique, one of a kind arts and cultural experience. KKC will be shifting our ongoing art programs into the Soo VAC gallery at various times throughout the run of the exhibition to engage artists, youth and the general public in art workshops and presentations. Together we will represent a legacy of personal and social engagement between hundreds of individuals and organizations in the Twin Cities, a wide network of collaborative surprises.
Setting the stage for memories expressed by those who participated in the past, witnessed and interpreted by those participating in the present, heard, felt and re-imagined by the visiting publics.
