KULTURE KLUB COLLABORATIVE – 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Call for submissions

Special invitation for proposals:

Kulture Klub Collaborative (KKC) is seeking artists interested in participating in the design and implementation of art projects for our upcoming 15 year anniversary exhibit/event in November of 2008 at the Soo Visual Art Center.

Goals
In preparation for our 15 year exhibition, the KKC staff and Board are seeking artists, or teams of artists, to design projects that will engage homeless teens, artists, social service providers, and community partners in the production of works of creative self expression.

We reach out to artists that are interested in connecting with young people to share their expertise and unique perspectives to create meaningful cultural exchange. Artists that are selected will be asked to work in collaboration with KKC staff, and founding director and internationally recognized artist Dorit Cypis.

Background:
KKC was founded in 1992 to bring dignity and respect to homeless youth and to artists, catalyzing new relationships between art and community. KKC initiated its AIR program in 1998 to provide 8-10 week intensive programs that partner homeless teens with artists of excellence in a diverse range of medium and artistic discipline. Since 1998, KKC has been fortunate enough to have worked with over 35 AIR artists and/or teams of artists. These AIR programs have served over 1300 participants over the past nine years. To this day, our AIR program is a vital component to the success of KKC and continues to be one of the most popular among our youth.

Mission:
Kulture Klub Collaborative engages art and artistic practice to provide enriching opportunities for youth experiencing homelessness and artists to grow individually and to transform community.

Guidelines:
We plan to offer three 6-8 week Residencies between the months of June and October of 2008 for an artist, or team of artists, to work with KKC to produce artworks for our Anniversary Exhibition/Event in November of 2008. We are looking for a diverse grouping of projects that will engage youth and our community from variety of creative and cultural perspectives. Projects can involve a variety of discipline including but not limited to; visual art, performance art, literary arts, music and composition, and media based art. Each AIR program will receive a $1,500 stipend as well as a $500 supply budget and limited tech support.

Timeline:
December 21, 2007: Deadline for Receipt of Proposals
January 2008: panel review
February 2008: Notification of Accepted Proposals
March 2008: Initial planning meeting with KKC, Soo VAC, and Dorit Cypis

Things to consider:
1. Please review the “KKC AIR Description.pdf” available on our website.
2. How does the proposal fit the artistic goals of KKC?
3. This is a 15 year anniversary program. How will your project promote or incorporate the rich history of KKC, or represent the “Body of Kulture Klub?”
4. How will your project inclusively engage KKC’s specific community (homeless teens, artists, social service providers, etc.) in the process of creative expression?
5. Our programs often focus on process by providing a meaningful experience for participants. How will your project result in a quality product for a public exhibition?
6. The product of your AIR program will be exhibited at the Soo VAC. What will it look, sound, feel, taste like? How will an audience experience your project?
7. We strongly encourage artists with a past relationship with KKC to apply.
